Abstract
299,102. Fiddes, W. J. June 30, 1927. Fixed sieves.-Apparatus for screening coal' &c. comprises a flexible screening band 14 fixed at one or both ends, endless chains 9 carrying rollers 12 the movement of which causes undulations of the band, and a trough having internal ledges 13 on which the lower parts of the band rest. To ensure a wave-like motion the band is loosely connected to the trough either by projections engaging slots in the sides of the trough or by arms 16 pivoted at 16a to the trough and at 17 to the band. The band may be engaged by the rollers on the lower as well as the upper part of the endless chains so as to produce wave-motions in opposite. directions. The coal is fed from a hopper 18 having a door 19 which is closed by the rollers 12 as they pass so as to produce an intermittent feed. The apparatus may be immersed in liquid in a tank or the trough may be inclined and have a bottom plate between the upper and lower rollers, water being supplied at the end opposite to the coal hopper. Water may be sprayed on to the band by spaced overhead pipes.
