Abstract
134,596. Burnett, C. Nov. 1, 1918. Inclined-trough washing-apparatus; washing- plant.-Coal or other material, particularly slack or fine coal, is washed first in a trough or conveyer and afterwards by water forced through or into it. In the plant shown in Fig. 1, coal from a hopper c is fed to a conveyer belt a, which carries the heavier material to the upper end, where it is discharged, while the coal is washed down by water jets e to a lower portion a' of the belt, which is submerged in a tank f to which water is supplied continuously or intermittently through a pipe m above or below the belt. The clean coal passes over a perforated jigging-plate p to elevators, while the washing-water passes along troughs la, i to a settling-tank j, from which the precipitate is removed by a conveyer k and shoot k<2> partly to a discharge shoot q and partly by way of a conveyer l to the belt a. The belt a may be perforated; or a skeleton scraper belt may move over a fixed perforated plate. The part a' of the belt may be more steeply inclined as shown, or it may hang in curved form in the tank f. The tank f may in some cases be perforated. Two washers may be arranged side by side, the two tanks f then communicating by a channel containing an oscillating vane or reciprocating piston whereby water is passed upwards into either tank alternately.
