Abstract

326,727. Fairweather, W., (Singer Manufacturing Co.). June 17, 1929. Hat-sewing machines.-The presserdisc, particularly of a machine for sewing sweat bands to hats, has an axis making an angle of more than 45‹ with the throat-plate so as to bear upon the work with its under-surface. In the form shown, the presser-disc 26 is mounted in an almost vertical bearing 25 on a bracket 24 on the presser-bar 6 and turns freely in a ballbearing 27. The tilt of the disc is such that its under surface 28 presses upon the work 9 immediately above the feed-dog 4. The bracket 24 is provided with an auxiliary presserfoot 32 cut at 33 to fit close to the presser-disc, and a tapered toe 35 underlying the looper 12 and serving to lift it about its pivot 36 when the presser is lifted. An edge guide 40 for the sweat band 9, a folder for the strip 37 and wire 38, and a stripping point 31, are provided. The machine is provided with two needles, one for sewing through the band and one for overcasting the edge, co-operating with the usual loopers.
