326,512. Compton, A. J., and Luffing- ham, A. C. Dec. 14, 1928. Sashes balanced by springs.-Vehicle windows are balanced by spring- controlled pinions 5 carried on a rod 4 mounted in the upper sash and engaging racks 6 fixed in the frame or on the beading attached thereto. The rod may 'be held against rotation by a non- rotating spring-pressed dog-clutch member 15 adapted to engage a corresponding clutch member 17 on the rod. The member 15 is actuated by a pivoted cranked handle 21 engaging pins 24 on the clutch. An alternative holding device may consist of a sliding member having teeth adapted to engage the racks actuated by cams on a rod mounted in the sash adjacent to the spindle 4.
