Abstract
326,270. General Electric Co., Ltd., and Kaula, R. J. Dec. 20, 1928. Plug couplings and connectors.- An electric socket comprises a plurality of spring tongues for contacting with a plug or pin, the tongues being curved inwardly between their ends, and outward movement of the tongues restricted or prevented at both ends. The socket is formed by stamping from a sheet of phosphor bronze and bending to shape, thus leading a slit 1 the whole length of the socket. The tongues 4, formed by cutting three other slits 3, do not extend to the top but leave an end piece 2 which prevents outward movement of the top ends of the tongues. A waist 9 is formed by curving the tongues inwardly between their ends. Outward movement of the bottom ends of the tongues 4 is prevented by an end piece 5 similar to that at the top. The socket is mounted by sweating to a tag or terminal piece 6. In a modification, the piece 6 has a hole through which the ends of the tongues 4 pass, some being turned over and soldered; the end piece 5 is omitted. In another modification the top end of the tongues are not joined but are prevented from outward movement by enclosing them in an insulating cylindrical case. According to the Provisional Specification, the socket is made from a piece of tube.
