Insoles and socks. -A composite insole for a boot &c. comprises a foundation layer 1 of leather, thick canvas, or other material, for the attachment of the upper, a cushion layer 10 of felt or similar material, and a covering layer 11 of thin leather e.g. glace kid provided with a flap 12 adapted to be lasted or secured with the upper to hold the insole in position in the boot &c. The flap 12 may, as shown, be formed in one piece with the covering layer, or it may be formed as a separate strip or strips secured thereto, and may extend around the forepart and waist only of the boot. The flap 12 is attached e.g. by adhesive to the foundation layer before lasting. When the foundation layer 1 is of leather, it may be channelled to form a lip, or, when the layer 1 is of canvas, the lip, if provided, may be formed by a separate strip of material 3 folded over a fibrous or rubber cord 4. A welt and sole may then be attached in the usual manner. At the heel end, when the flap 12 does not extend the whole of the way round, a metal heel piece may be inserted between the foundation and cushion layers to clinch the lasting tacks, and may afterwards be removed or allowed to remain.
