Abstract

324,630. Gilkes & Gordon, Ltd., G., and Crewdson, E. Aug. 29, 1928, Strainers having sheet straining-materials. - A. straining arrangement 3 formed of slit or reticulated sheet metal applicable to conduits carrying water for turbines, water wheels, or as feed or discharge from water settling tanks, is cleaned by one or more suction nozzles 4 on the upside of the strainer pivoted about open trunnions 5, and provided with counterweights 6. The nozzles are connected to a discharge, preferably communicating with the tail race of a turbine, and are oscillated by a crank 9 connected by a link 10 to a motor arm &c. The motor may be automatically switched in by a difference in head between the supply 1 and feed 2. Overflow from a dischargepipe connected to the nozzles 4 will cause strongsuction which will clear away leaves &c. as the nozzles are slowly oscillated over the strainer 3. The feed of water is not interfered with by thecleaning arrangements.
