Abstract

324,507. Smytheman, H. U. Jan. 11, 1929. Thermometers.-A temperature indicator for the radiators of motor cars comprises a tubular housing a, Figs. 1 and 3, adapted to be inserted into the radiator and carrying an annular ring b closed on its front and rear sides with glass &c., a bimetallic strip c wound in the form of a helix and secured at its lower end, and a vertically slidable or rotatable rod connected to the upper end of the strip and having a rack or pinion gearing with a corresponding member on the axle of a pointer f. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the rack d<1> is formed as an extension of the rod d which preferably has a rotatable connection with the strip c. In a modification, the effect may be multiplied by providing a pivoted toothed sector actuated by the rod. The rod h, in the construction shown in Fig. 3, is rotatable and carries the pinion h<1>. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 187,303.
