Optical apparatus. - A light slit unit for soundrecording and reproducing apparatus is made by scoring, etching, &c. a line in an opaque plate or in an opaque coating on a transparent support, or by spacing two opaque members apart the necessary distance to provide the slit between them. The slit may be coated or filled in with transparent enamel which may be fused to the support. Fig. 2 shows a slit 3 made in a coating 2 of black ceramic enamel, non-actinic glass, or burnt-in metal on a transparent glass &c. support 1. A lens 4 may be attached to the support to condense the light on the slit, or alternatively, the support may be partially cut away opposite to the slit. Fig. 5 shows the slit 12 provided by two spaced-apart coated supports 9, 10, the slit being filled with transparent powdered enamel which is fused to unite the supports and furnish a transparent slit. The slit unit may form one of the raceways of a film gate.
