Fixed-abutment type; packing drums, vanes, abutments, and the like; discharge and suction pipes and passages for pumps; compensating for irregularity of flow.-A rotary engine or pump of the type in which a diametral vane 2 is secured to a central shaft 1 in a cylindrical casing 3 and projects through an eccentric drum has the drum formed by two closely fitting cylinders 4, 5, the vane at each end engaging a narrow slot 6 or 7 in one cylinder and being capable of circumferential movement in an extended slot 8 or 9 of the other cylinder.
