Abstract

308,420. Spina, E. Lanzerotti-. Feb. 7,1928. Fixed-abutment type; back-pressure, reducing; driving pumps; packing drums and vanes.-A hollow radial vane 1 with a port 16 in one face is mounted on a hollow shaft 2 to sweep the concentric surface of a ported cylinder 5 and passes through an eccentric drum 6 having a vane slot 14 of greater length than the thickness of the vane. The cylinder is recessed at 7 to have surface contact with the drum 6 and a port 8 is formed in the cylinder adjacent thereto. The vane port 16 is so situated as to open to the cylinder space when the vane passes the cylinder port 8. To prevent back-pressure by fluid trapped in the cylinder or drum interior when the vane port 16 is no longer open thereto bye-passes 18, 17 are formed in the cylinder and on the vane boss. With elastic fluids the ports may be arranged to give compression or expansion. The drum 6 may be fitted with laminar springs 9 abutting against the vane to maintain the same against the proper edge of the slot 14. In the construction shown in Fig. 9 the drum 6 drives the vane and is formed with a groove 21 to allow delivery from the drum interior while passing the recessed part 7 of the cylinder. The drum may be formed with an end plate carrying a driving shaft or with teeth engaged by a driving pinion; the end plate which is provided with a renewable thrust ring may be chamfered at its periphery to receive a soft packing pressed thereto by a spring washer. Vane packing means are provided comprising strips pressed outwardly and laterally by rollers moving centrifugally in inclined grooves as described in Specification 300,534. Lubricant is fed from a duct 29 to the shaft bearings which are provided with soft packings retained by spring washers.
