Abstract
323,996. Cockburns, Ltd., and Mac. Nicoll, D. May 16, 1929. Closure members, double-beat.-To accommodate differential expansions in double-beat stop valves under varying temperature conditions, one of the beats, 2, is threaded into a socket member 11 having limited play between a nut 16 and sleeve 14 screwed on the end of the spindle 15 of the other beat 1, both beats co-operating with rigid seats 3, 4 without the use of flexible diaphragms such as described in Specification 286,496. The stem 18 of the beat 2 is guided in a bush 19 carried by a cover plate 20, the upper beat being operatively connected to a spindle 9 carrying a handwheel 10. For grinding operations, the nut 16 is screwed down on the socket member. In normal use, the nut 16 and sleeve 14 are pinned to the spindle.
