323,776. Heath, F. Oct. 9. 1928. Feeding webs.-In a wrapping-machine, blocks to be wrapped are fed along a shoot 11 and into a trough 38 carried by a frame 23 movable on uprights 21 by a lever 24 rocked by cams 26, 27 on a shaft 20 to lower or raise the frame 23, and during the rise of the trough 38 and frame 23 paper from a roll 48 is drawn forwards until its forward end projects beneath the trough 38, the paper being gripped between fixed and movable plates 61, 53<1> on a platform 53. The platform 53 is moved along guides 52 by a lever 58 rocked by the engagement of a pin 60, on an extension of the lever 24, with the end of a slot 58' in the lever 58. The plate 53' rests upon a horizontal bar 54 supported by a lever 55 and link 56; the lever 55 is linked to the lever 58 so that the initial movement of the latter raises the plate 53<1> into gripping contact with the paper P. As the trough 38 descends, the projecting portion of the paper is bent to U-shape around it, and a knife on the frame 23 severs the end portion from the strip.
