Abstract

323,606. Randle, F. Nov. 20, 1928. Tubes for radiators, condensers, &c. are formed with external helical corrugations or fins 4 and an integral longitudinal rib 15. They are made by pressing tubes on to a helically-grooved die-section. A press may be used provided and a split die 13, the edges 14 of the die sections being rounded to the full depth of the corrugations. Longitudinal ribs 15 are thus formed adjacent the rounded parts 14 of the die, providing increased rigidity of the tube and greater radiating surface. The mandrel is preferably coated with grease and is withdrawn by unscrewing. The die may consist of any desired number of sections to obtain a corresponding number of ribs.
