Abstract
303,160. Bundy, H. W. Dec. 30, 1927, [Convention date]. Tubes.-A, helical fin is applied to a preformed tube 1, Fig. 1, to form a finned tube for radiators &c. capable of being bent easily, by winding fin stock on to the tube with sufficient tightness to collapse partially the body of the 'tube so as to form a helical seating groove 10 for the said stock. The fin stock is preferably angular in cross-section, the leg 2 thereof forming a spiral band around the tube and the leg 3 forming the helical fin. The tube 1 is received in a winding: head 4 and the fin stock is fed thereto by pressure rolls 5, 6 having oppositely disposed surfaces which engage the fin leg 3, whila the winding head also includes a lead die 7 having a slanting or cam surfaces 8 which engages with the fin and sets the pitch thereof. The pitch of the helical fin may be arranged so that adjacent convolutions of the leg 2 abut against each other, Fig. 2, or overlap, Fig. 4.
