Abstract

Helically wound, finned tubes used for heat exchangers. Comprises a tube and a helically wound, continuous fin with an L-shaped cross-section, a horizontal foot and a shank which extends outwards is tapered inwards, and consists of easily deformed material. The shank is wound around the tube so that the outer side of the foot contacts the outer circumference of the tube while the foot turns towards the smooth side of the tube when the fin is formed. The following fin is formed on to the foot so that a single heat transfer surface is obtained. Spec, the method of tube manufacture is also described.
