In a method of varying the configuration of the external fins 2 on a tube 1, the tube moves between circumferentially grooved rolls 4 and 5, so that the periphery of any fin, as it simultaneously makes contact with the grooves 6 and 7 at locations which have different radial distances from the roll axes, and hence different peripheral speeds, has creep induced in it, resulting in the configuration of Fig. 5. A tube of lenticular section, Fig. 6, may be similarly treated with suitably profiled rolls or, if desired, the change in configuration of the fins can be produced simultaneously with the forming of a lenticular section tube from a circular section one. The tubes so formed are suitable for use in heat-exchangers.
