Abstract
323,276. Davis, R. H. Oct. 2, 1928. Respirators of the type in which a chemical substance, such as sodium or potassium peroxide, capable of evolving oxygen when brought into contact with the moisture of the breath is employed, are provided with one or more small light containers for respiratory gas under pressure, the arrangement being such that the gas can be released by force applied outside the respirator. The container preferably contains sufficient gas to fill a respirator of normal size. The container 5, Fig. 2', may be provided with a soft metal seal screwed on to a pin 8 projecting from a plug 6 screwing into a socket in the respirator 1, the seal being broken by the pin 8 if the container be gripped from outside the respirator and wrenched free. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the container 5 is mounted in a holder 9 pivoted to the plug 6 and carrying a spring-pressed piercer 11 adapted to be forced into the neck of the container bv a cam 12 when the holder 9 is turned about its pivot.
