Force-transmitting mechanism. - A controleffort balancing device for use in connection with braking mechanism comprises a shaft C with one end carried in a fixed bearing D and the other end free to swing angularly in a plane containing the axis of the shaft, the shaft carrying two levers B<1>, B<2> which project in opposite directions and are connected to the brake mechanisms and a third lever A to which the effort is applied, these levers all lying approximately in a plane passing through the axis of the shaft and at 90‹ to the above-mentioned plane the lever A being situated either at the fixed end of the shaft or at a point intermediate its length, and the brake lever B<1> being fixed to the free end of the shaft whilst the brake lever B<2> is fixed to a point intermediate its length. The lever B<2> may be mounted so that it can be moved along the length of the shaft by means operable from a distance, to vary the ratio of the forces applied to the brakes, an indicator being provided to show its setting. Stops may be provided to limit the angular movement of the shaft C so that if a breakage occurs in one of the brake mechanisms, the shaft will abut against the stop and continue to operate the remaining brake.
