Glasshouses.-In order that the plants in a greenhouse may receive maximum sunlight independent of their positions, the slope of the roof is set for the particular latitude of the place, and the shelves are disposed so as to slope inwardly and downwardly from the inclined roof. The building is formed of frameworks comprising inclined sides 7 and 8 and floor portions 6 disposed at distances apart and connected, the sides being inclined at 65‹ and 55‹ respectively, and crossstay-bars 11 being used near to the top to stiffen the frames. The frame members are formed of light T-section metal with the webs disposed inwardly, and subsidiary frames 16, 17, formed also of T-section metal, are connected to the floor and to the centres of the stay-bars 11. The webs of the frame members and the subsidiary frame members are perforated to receive pins 21, which support bearers 22, which are grooved at their upper surfaces to receive the glass shelves 25 and are provided with drainage grooves 26. The shelves are inclined downwardly from the roof and overlap at their inner edges, so that the drippings fall to the floor and not on the lower shelves. The glazing 28 is secured to bearers secured to the flanges of the outer frame members. Frameworks formed of tubes 31 may be provided to form supports for roll curtains 34, 38 adapted to roll laterally and up and down respectively, and a central curtain 39 may also be provided. Mats or other heat insulating material may be used under the curtains to protect the houses during cold weather. The shelves may be of metal, wood, or the like, but are preferably of glass.
