Abstract

253,704. Packer, S. C., and Packer, S. R. S. May 28, 1925. Awnings.-Areadily removable protective covering for cricket pitches, tennis courts, bowling greens, &c., comprises a frame or structure made up of one or more sections and having a sloping, rooflike or cambered top for shedding water, and means on one or each side of the top whereby the drainings can be collected and passed to a point or points remote from the pitch. As shown, a section of the covering comprises a horizontal rectangular frame 2, a ridge-piece 3 supported from the frame by uprights 4, 8, inclined members 7 supported by the ridge-piece and the frame, and a covering 9 of canvas, felt, or galvanized iron. The frame is mounted on castor wheels 14 and is provided on two sides with gutters 10 from which the water is drained by pipes 12, 13. Valances 17 are detachably secured to the gutters to prevent rain from being driven under the covering, and flaps may be secured to the outer ends of the endmost sections for the same purpose, both the flaps and valances being weighted at their free edges. The various parts of the covering may be readily dismantled.
