Abstract

355,347. Garden frames. FEAR, G. J., Portal Street, Durie Hill, Wanganui, New Zealand. May 23, 1930, No. 15964. [Class 20 (i).] In sectional frames for horticultural purposes of the kind wherein sections, open at the top and bottom are placed one upon another, the uppermost section being provided with a slidably mounted roof of glass, mica, or other transparent material, the bottom section is a floored seed tray 1. The tray 1, Fig. 1, may be made of sheet metal, wood, compressed paper, or like strong material, the sides 2, 3, being reinforced by wire 5 and beading 6. The bottom 4 of the tray is provided with drainage channels 7 ending in holes 8. Legs, integral with or attached to the bottom 4, or raised bars serving as legs, may be provided. In one form, Fig. 2, a frame cover member 21 may be slidably mounted in grooves 20 attached to sloping edges of sides 10 of the uppermost section. A glass or other transparent sheet may be detachably inserted in grooves in the cover member 21, the upper portion of which may be bent downwardly over the back of the section, and rest on flanges. In setting up the frame each section is slipped over the upper portion of the section below, and bolts or peg members 26 are provided for use as stops. Intermediate sections comprising four-sided rectangular members may be provided. In further modifications, the uppermost section may have two triangular sides so that two sloping transparent roofs may be provided. The sides may be connected by a threaded stay rod. Ventilation holes 27 may be provided. The edges of the sides of sections may be stiffened by beading. A false bottom may be incorporated within the frame.
