Abstract

322,725. Wieth, R. Jan. 21, 1929. Divided on and addition to 304,616, under which a Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Jan, 21, 1929. Exhaust silencers. - The parent Specification describes a silencer comprising a casing a divided by partitions c, d, e into chambers some of which contain tubes g<1>, h bent almost to circles. The tube g<1> forms part of the inlet tube g and the tube h part of the outlet tube i, both tubes tapering in the direction of gas flow. The outlet end g<2> of tube g<1>, and the inlet end h<2> of tube h are set obliquely to the general plane of the tubes. The partitions c, e are provided with apertures f, and the tube i with apertures k, l. The outlet tube m is provided with a worm n of aluminium. The invention consists in the provision of a chamber o near the inlet end, and communicating with the inlet pipe through holes p and acting as a reservoir in case of excessive flow or pressure; it also prevents pressure accumulation or banking effects from spreading to the engine.
