Abstract
322,557. British Celanese, Ltd., and Taylor, W. I. Sept. 19, 1928. Grant of Patent opposed. Apparatus for making filaments.-In the dryspinning of artificial silk and other artificial filaments, particularly from solutions of cellulose acetate or other organic derivatives of cellulose. a fluid stream is applied to the filaments, in the course of their produotiom, in such a way that they are propelled by the stream at a speed greater than that at which they are extruded, - whereby they are stretched and their denier is reduced. The stretching may be effected inside the spinning cell preferably at such a distance from the spinning jet that the filaments have ceased to be adhesive; alternatively, the stretching mav take place outside the cell. As shown, a bundle of filaments 4 from a jet 5 enters the larger end of a device 7 comprising, as shown in Fig. 2, inner and outer truncated cones 10, 11 connected at their larger ends. Compressed air is passed through a pipe 12 into the space between the 'cones and, on issuing from the outlet 13, exerts an ejector action on the filaments so that their denier is reduced; the outlet 13 may be flared. The filaments, preferably associated to form a thread 17, finally pass to a cap-spinning device 18, but they may, before winding, be moistened, lubricated, sized, etc. The Provisional Specification refers to Specification 198,023.
