Abstract

322,114. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Dec. 17, 1928. Caoutchouc, synthetic.-Diolefines in an emulsified form are polymerized in presence of polymerized oils or oils through which an oxidizing gas has been passed at high temperatures, or derivatives of these products such as the products obtained by treating the polymerized or oxidized oils with ammonia. The product, which may be in the form of latex, contains the modified oil in finely dispersed form. A suitable polymerized oil may be obtained by the distillation of castor oil, the distillation being stopped before solid substances separate in the still, the residual oil in the still being the desired product. In an example water, polymerized castor oil, and ammonia solution are shaken to form an emulsion, isoprene or butadiene and hydrogen peroxide being then added, the whole being shaken in an autoclave at 60‹ C, for three days and precipitated by methyl alcohol.
