Abstract

321,825. Tilton, E. W. Nov. 12. 1928. Slippers.-The upper 5 and cloth lining of a ballet slipper are attached by inclined seams 9 to a toe cap 5<1>, which is provided with a reiniorcement of canvas 8 and lining 5<a>. The lower marginal edges of the rear part of the turned upper 5, approximately as far forward as the seams 9, is stitched to the outer sole 6 by stitches which pass through a shoulder into an inclined cut or slit around the edge of the outer sole. The upper is then turned right side out and a rigid leather box stiffener 10 is disposed between the lining 5a and reinforcement 8. The outer edge of the reinforcement 8 is tucked around the base of the stiffener 10, which is provided with a flange 10<a>, Fig. 5, and is secured by tacks to the outer sole. Slanting grooves, at an angle to one another, are provided in the bottom of the outer sole 6 to receive and conceal the stitches 13<1> which secure the lower edge 14 of the toe can 5<1> to the outer sole 6 and which pass through the aforementioned shoulder on the edge of the outer sole.
