Abstract

321,413. Wagner, C. L. Aug. 7, 1928. Refuse-consuming furnaces. - Waste liquors from the manufacture of paper pulp and other waste liquors containing organic matters are burned so as to recover soda &c. and to obtain hot gases which may be used to generate steam. A furnace chamber 1 is heated preliminarily by combustion of oil sprayed downwards through the nozzles 7. The waste liquor is then sprayed through the nozzle 7 and falls through a zone A supplied with air through openings 5, 6 from chests 4 where partial combustion takes place, and into a zone B where combustion is completed by air admitted through nozzles 8, 9 and the residual salts are fused. The hot gases pass through a dust chamber 16, a boiler 17, and a scrubber 18 to a chimney 15. The air supplied to the furnace chamber may be drawn through a heater 14 and forced into the chamber by a fan 13. The top of the furnace is cooled by water circulated through pipes embedded therein. If the waste liquors contain sodium sulphate, this becomes reduced to sodium sulphide.
