Shears and like shearing-instruments.-A haircutting device which can be self operated comprises an adjustable handle frame 1, Fig. 1, carrying a spindle 20 connected to blades 21, 15, Fig. 3, arranged above an adjustable comb 14, the blade 21 being opened by a thumb-piece 27 on the member 20. The handle frame consists of two parts 2,3 3 relatively slidable and adjustable by a nut 7 rotatable on a screw 6. A thumbstrap 8 is provided. A reduced end 12, Fig. 5, of the handle part 2 is provided near its end with a plate 13 to which are attached by a screw 16 the comb plate 14 and the fixed cutting blade 15. The operating member 27 is kept raised by a spring 30, Fig. 3. An extension 29 on the member 27 serves as a releasing means in case of sticking owing to hair becoming wedged. A gauge member 40 for varying the length of hair to be left uncut comprises two upright walls 41, 42 connected together and adjustable as regards the comb by a spring mounted handle 50, Fig. 3, having a pin 47 which can be slipped into one of a series of holes 46 in the handle part 2.
