Abstract

320,947. White, A. E., (Aluminium, Ltd.). July 27, 1928. Moulds. - An iron, steel, or other permanent mould for casting aluminium &c. comprises halves 2, Fig. 7, associated with a base 1 so that they can expand without losing their original alignment. The halves are connected at one side by a lever 10 and cam 11 and at the other by a hinge pin 3 which engages a slot or hole, elongated in the direction of the contact faces c, in the base. A projection 25 on the base engages a corresponding recess, in the halves 2, concentric with the mould cavity. In a modification the pin 3 does not engage the base and rotation is prevented by making the projection 25 non-circular or arranging a dowel pin 33 in the base to engage a hole formed at the faces' c. If it is desired to adjust the halves 2 to compensate for wear &c. each half may be hinged to a separate pin 14, 15, Fig. 3, with eccentric pivots in plates 16, 17 to which they can be locked by screws 22. The plate 17 has a pin 18 which may engage an elongated hole in the base. This construction also permits a hinged mould being used for castings with considerable projections &c.
