Abstract

320,037. Carmichael, M. June 28, 1928. Building-blocks.-The invention relates to the interlocking-block type of constructional toy, and consists in providing "panel" units of greater width than height and pier units of greater height than width, the two units being of the same thickness. The height of the pier units is greater than that of the panel units. The pier units a, a<1>, Fig. 2, have dovetailed grooves into which fit corresponding projections on the panel units b. The base is formed of channel-shaped elements c, those at the corners having mitred ends, Fig. 3. Piers, a', Fig. 5, for the corners are provided, as also are pier and panel units with inclined tops to form gable ends. Windows k and doors l are arranged to dovetail into the uprights in the same manner as do the panels. Sills, etc., m, n, may be formed with or without dovetails. The joints f, g, are arranged to be in different horizontal planes. A door capable of opening and comprising a step o, Figs. 14 and 15, jambs p and heading q, each with dovetails, may be employed. The door s has pivots s<1> engaging plates r, r<1>, on the heading and step respectively. A window bay may be built up or may be provided in one piece. The surface of the units may be panelled and coloured, and the interlocking tongues and grooves may be of shapes other than dovetailed. A roof may be formed of cardboard or metal sheets coloured to represent tiles and hinged together at the ridge.
