Abstract
319,990. Segnitz, W. Nov. 27, 1928. Hatches.-The removable hatchway beams c or fore-and-afters are automatically locked in position by or upon the insertion of the beam in which its socket h by a locking pawl a which is initially raised to the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, and which, when the beam is fully inserted, falls with its inclined nose g engaging with the inclined top i of the beam which is then prevented from rising by the arm f of the pawl engaging the fixed abutment d. In a modification, the beam c, Fig. 5, carries a two-armed lever k with a nose m adapted to engage in a recess in the hatch coaming and a second nose s designed to trip over a locking-pawl p. After the pawl p has been unlocked by hand, the lever k may be released by pulling on the handle n to which its arm l is linked.
