Casings and supports for meters.-Existing electricity meters are modified to serve for a new rate of charges by mounting the necessary additional apparatus on a separate base plate, which may be fixed to the old baseplate by means of an interposed intermediate member. Fig. 2 is a plan of the baseplate and Fig. 1 a vertical section of the lower part of the meter casing on the line A-B. A baseplate having the area and shape a, Fig. 2, is provided for the counting train and a base having the area and shape b for the prepayment mechanism, the full lines showing the original baseplate of the meter and the dot- and-dash lines the enlarged new baseplate. An intermediate member e is mounted on the old baseplate c, Fig. 1, with the insertion of a packing cord d, the new baseplate g being fastened by rivets f or by screws, welding, &c. The baseplate g is large enough to house the required additional devices and is covered by the casing cap h with the interposition of a packing cord j. The member e and the new baseplate g are. formed with holes or slots through which the parts of the meter remaining on the old baseplate may project. Parts of the meter itself may be carried by the new baseplate. The screws &c. that fasten the new baseplate g to the member e may also fix the member e to the old baseplatec.
