Ornamenting. - A method of ornamenting sheets of wood, metal, or other materia1, particularly applicable to graining in imitation of rare woods, consists in printing the ornamentation or grain on a thin flexible sheet of transparent material such as cellulose ester or celluloid, preferably in intaglio, applying the basic colour of the imitated wood to the printed surface by painting or spraying or by means of rollers, and then fixing the printed side of the sheet to the materia1, for example, p1ywood, to be ornamented by means of an adhesive. The adhesive may be mixed with the colour applied to the transparent sheet. Articles with curved surfaces, such as mouldings and tubes, may be similarly ornamented.
