Abstract

318,807. Lobnitz & Co., Ltd., and Bedgood, H. O. Dec. 10, 1928. Scoop-arm machines.-In a dipper dredger or excavator comprising a floating structure stabilized by spuds, the forward spuds 30 are operated through duplex ropes 52 by a winch 33 arranged between them and comprising separate barrels 45 coupled to loose pinions 37 on a shaft 36 driven by a vertical engine 34; the pinions 37 may be coupled separately or simultaneously to the shaft 36 by means of clutches arranged within drums 39, while brake bands 40 may be applied to the drums by means of air motors 43 to lock the barrels 45. Oblique struts 49 are arranged in the line of pull of the ropes 52. A second winch 12 has two barrels, one controlling hoisting ropes 8 and the other controlling a backing rope 14, a counterweight 21 being connected by a rope 14a to the latter drum. A third winch 27 operates ropes passing round a turntable 3 to slue the jib 4, while a further winch 31 controls a rear spud 29. Specification 225,683 is referred to.
