318,290. British United Shoe Machinery Co., Ltd., Woodcock, R. B., and Boothroyd, H. June 2, 1928. Machine cutters, grinding in situ; trueing rotating tools.-In a cylinder knife skiving machine, the knife is formed of a complete unbroken cylinder of metal of 4¢-7 inches in diameter and either or both of the feed device and grinding- wheel is belt driven from a power shaft. A belt 5 is lapped round a driving pulley 4, guide pulleys 6, 7, a spring urged jockey 9, a grinding-wheel pulley 13, and a feed pulley 15. A grinding-wheel 47 a mounted on an arm 48 hinged on a journal 50 with eccentric bushes for adjustment. The wheel is moved towards knife by a handwheel 55 and is retracted by a spring 52. A wheel 56 for trueing the grinding-wheel is mounted on a lever engaged by a bell-crank 57. Actuation of a hand rod 63 swings the bellcrank against the urge of a strong spring 62 to allow a weak spring 59 to engage the trueing wheel with the grinding-wheel.
