Abstract
318,100. Dunn, R. J. Aug. 27, 1928, [Convention date]. Winding-apparatus on portable engines and motor vehicles; laying or guiding ropes on or off during winding or unwinding. - An excavator, plough, &c. is attached to a haulage rope, the ends of which are wound in opposite directions on a pair of winding drums which are mounted on a tractor and provided with rope-laying apparatus. The drums 8, 8 are free on a shaft which is driven through bevel gears 13, 14 by the crank shaft 12 of the tractor. Each drum can be coupled to the shaft by clutch members 15, 16. One flange of each drum is attached to a worm wheel 19 which through a worm 20 imparts motion to a pair of rope guides 21. The guides are mounted on an upper pin rack 22 and a lower pin racli 23, Fig. 5, each of which is secured to a saddle member 24 movable in guides 25 in a supporting member 26. Each rack has a series of pins 27, Fig. 6, which are engaged by pinions 28. A cam track in each rack is engaged by an extension of the shaft on which the pinion is mounted. The shaft 39 on which the worm 20, driving the lower rack, is mounted is connected by two sets of bevel gears to a shaft 31 carrying the pinion 28. The shaft 31 is mounted in a bifurcated member 32 adapted to oscillate upon a bevel wheel shaft 33. The other worm 20 is mounted on a shaft 41 which drives a shaft 49 through bevel gearing. The shaft 49 carries a pinion 28 and is mounted in an upper bifurcated member 50 capable of oscillation on the shaft 46.
