Coal cutting machines. - Relates to flitting-trucks for machines of the type which normally hauls itself along the mine floor by a chain or the like, and comprises a truck having a frame so constructed as to be capable of removably receiving and supporting a machine of that type, combined with an airdriven motor independent of said machine mounted on the truck and a driving-connection between the motor and truck wheels. The truck comprises a frame 10, having wheels 11, 12, and carrying a motor .13 which is an airdriven turbine constructed as described in Specification 172,941, [Class 78 (v), Winding and paying-out apparatus &c.], with the turbine enclosed in a drum. Clamped to the drum is a sprocket 18 driving a shaft 15 by means of a chain 17 and sprocket 19. The shaft 15 drives a shaft 16 either by means of a chain and sprockets 24, 22 or in the reverse direction by means of gears 23, 21, the wheels 21, 22 being loose on the shaft 16 and clutched thereto by a clutch 25 which can be slid along the shaft 16 by a handle 26 and rod 27. Chains 32, 31 drive the wheels 11, 12 from the shaft 16. The drum of the motor 13 may serve as a winding drum when the truck is to ascend steep gradients, a haulage cable being attached to the drum and to an anchor in advance of the truck. When used to flit a machine 33 of the pivoted jib type, the side of the frame is cut away at 35 to allow the jib and its chain to rotate when in position, and is also cut away at 37 when the jib is to be slewed by its haulage chain.
