[Class 78 (i)] A loading-machine comprises an endlesstrack vehicle at each end of which an extensible conveyer is so mounted that it can be swung in vertical and horizontal planes. The conveyer at the gathering end of the machine comprises a lower belt conveyer 18<1>, Fig. 3, and an upper scraper conveyer 23 provided with gathering mechanism 24a, Fig. 1. The casing 18 of the conveyer 18<1> is secured to a fixed framework on the vehicle, and is provided with longitudinal grooves 25 which receive rollers 27 mounted on a depending part of the casing of the conveyer 23. Guide rollers 28 mounted on the casing 18 'engage similar grooves in the casing of the conveyer 23. A rack 30 on the bottom of the casing of the conveyer 23 is engaged by a pinion 31 driven by a chain 33 from the shaft 34 of the gear box 4. This shaft is driven by a toothed coupling, bevel gears 38a, and worm-gearing 37 from a shaft 7 which can be driven in either direction by the motor 103 by engaging the appropriate coupling 6a or 6b. The scraper conveyer is driven by an endless chain which passes round end drums on the shafts 35, 37 and a chain wheel on the shaft of the driving drum of the belt 18<1>. The gathering arms 24a are mounted on a jib 24 which is pivotally mounted on the shaft 35 and is raised and lowered bv cables 50 passing over sheaves 55 on arms 36 secured to the end of the casing of the conveyer 23. These cables are wound on sheaves 49 mounted on a shaft 48 which is connected bv bevel gears to a shaft 44 mounted at the side of the casing of the conveyer 23. The shaft 44 passes through, and is connected by a key to, a chain wheel 41 which is mounted on the casing 18 and driven by the shaft 7 through worm-gearing 37 and a chain drive 40. The jib carries an endless belt conveyer 24b. The conveyer framework at the delivery end of the machine is pivoted at 73 to a turntable 62 driven by the motor 103, and is adjusted by the movement of the piston of the hydraulic cylinder 75. A single endless belt 89 is passed round rollers on a fixed part of the framework and on a telescopic member 81 which is extended or retracted by cables 82 wound on drums 83.
