Gravity-separation apparatus.-In apparatus for separating light inflammable oil from waste water, means comprising an air bell in a float vessel are provided whereby flow of water through the outlet is stopped when a certain amount of oil has accumulated in the operating device. As shown, the separating chamber 4 is provided with a hinged float vessel 9 surrounding an air bell 10 which is connected to a water seal head 13. Waste water mixed with the oil enters the chamber 4 through the opening 2. The oil 3 is siphoned into the vessel 9 whereby the air in the bell 10 is compressed so that the water in the branches of the water seal 16 is pressed back until finally the flow through the outlet 17 ceases.
