Portable turning-apparatus. - Apparatus for cutting pipes, for turning away lead caulking from joints or for recaulking the joints has the tools carried by a rotary tool-head in a housing adjustably secured to a saddle of V-block form secured to the pipe by chains. The saddle a serves for a range of pipe diameters and is attached to the securing chains at a<x>. The face a<1> has planed ways, which may vary in form, to provide a guided adjustment, along the centre line of the saddle, for a two-part housing c for a rotary bit-head d. For turning away lead caulking a holder 1 is secured to a facing on the head, carrying a tool 2 screwed at 4 and held from rotation at 3, a bevel wheel nut 5 being rotated by a star feed 6, 7. For caulking the tool 2 is replaced by a tool similar as to the shank but carrying a caulking-roller. Rotary tool-heads.-The tool-head d has one or more bosses housing screwed tool-holders f fed by ratchet-wheel nuts f<1> cooperating with detents and with strikers (not shown). The cutters f<2> when detachable from the holders, are screwed onto shanks f<13> and locked by grub-screws f<5> which engage grooves in the cutters. Grooves f<7> in the holders are engaged by key-ended plungers to render the feed operative, the plungers being disengaged for rapid adjustment or withdrawal.
