317,244. Andrews, E. S., (Simplex Piston Ring Co. of America, Inc.). Sept. 7, 1928. Pistons, packing.-In an oil-scraper ring in which axial resilience is obtained by means of circumferential slots, passage of oil to the back of the ring is secured by wide slots G<2>, Fig. 1, which do not contract under axial compression. The axial resilience is provided by narrow slots G<3>, with narrow upper bars G<1>, the axial yield being limited by the width of the slots G<3>. The packing is expanded by a wave spring J, Fig. 1, which is held in a raised position by means of a bevelled flange H<5>. In a modification, the slots H<1>, H<2>, Fig. 4, in both rows are wide and axial yield is limited by stops H<4>. Specification 318,010 is referred to.
