Trawling-gear.-The net 1 is towed along the ground, the shear boards, which operate at a short distance above the sea bottom, being connected thereto by a cable 2 which is under tension and by a slack cable 6 which drags along the ground so as to stir up the sea bottom. As shown in Fig. 1, the shear boards 3 may be maintained at a determined distance above the ground by a weighted chain or cable 5 to which the slack cable 6 is attached. The slack cables may carry brush-like members and may include weaker parts which will break under abnormal stresses and so prevent damage to the gear. Specification 298,218 is referred to.
