Abstract
298,486. Huret, (nÚe Copin), J. C. V. Oct. 8, 1927, [Convention date]. Trawling-gear; nets.-In order to disturb fish lying buried in the sand or mud, a series of teeth, hooks, or like devices f are dragged in front of the ground rope B of the net, being attached either to the trawl beam b or to a rope c secured to the ends of the beam, Fig. 2, or in the case of other trawls to a rope secured to the otter boards p, Fig. 3, or to the towing hawsers, Fig. 6. The hooks may be resilient or made ir two parts resiliently connected so as to pass over obstacles more readily. Rollers or sliding shoes may be fitted to the cable carrying the hooks or the like. Fig. 13 shows a net composed of twc parts; an ordinary net C<2> forms the front part of the combined net, and the belly of this net forms the back of a second net C<2> having an opening F<2> in its belly, the forward side of this opening being provided with a row of hooks f. Both nets are fitted with hoop-nets V<1>, V<2>, which open into a common pocket P. Fish swimming near or lying on the bottom are caught in the ordinary net and those buried in the sand are disturbed by the hooks f and cannot escape forwards by reason of the net in advance of the hooks. A weighted veil or vertical net may be used in front of the hooks.
