Abstract

459,699. Trawling - gear. V.D., Ltd., 54, Victoria Street, Westminster. June 24, 1936, No. 17522. Convention date, June 26, 1935. [Class 48] A fishing-net, with or without belly and with a rear pocket operating substantially at the level of the head rope has the lower part of the pocket maintained above the sea bed by a sledge or like rigid structure which also prevents the escape of fish below the rear pocket. A bellyless net is shown having the mouth of its rear pocket supported by a cylinder G connected by upper and lower ropes 2, 3, 2<1>, 31 to cones H, H<1> on the tow ropes. Netting k, k<1> fills in the space between the ropes to prevent escape of fish. The sides of the net are strengthened by slack cables 4, 41 connected to the cones H, H<1>. The cylinder G shown does not rotate but it may be mounted to rotate in a vertical frame connected to the ropes 2, 3, 2<1>, 31. Alternatively, the cylinder may be replaced by a beam N, Fig. 5, with iron shoes O, O<1>, loose chains P or a netting curtain depending from the beam to prevent escape of fish. Alternatively, the curtain may be replaced by a lower pocket having a lower part of reduced extent to minimize wear.
