Dithiocarbamic acid salts.-The vulcanization of rubber is effected in water in which is dissolved, as accelerator, an inorganic salt of a dithiocarbamic acid, in particular an alkali metal, earth alkali metal or magnesium salt. Examples of suitable salts are magnesium dibenzyldithiocarbamate, calcium ethylphenyldithiocarbamate, - sodium dibenzyldithiocarbamate and the barium salt of ethylhexabydrophenyldithiocarbamic acid. 'This last salt may be prepared by causing 1 mol. of carbondisulphide to react with 1 mol. of hexahydroethylaniline in the presence of 1 mol. of caustic soda. The sodium salt of ethylhexahydrophenyldithiocarbamic acid formed is caused to react with barium chloride to form the required barium salt. The salts may be prepared directly in the vulcanizing bath, for example 2 kgs. of carbon disulphide and 0.4 kgs. of caustic soda are stirred in 100 litres of water and in the solution of sodium dibenzyldithiocarbamate thus produced vulcanization is carried on for about one hour.
