Abstract

316,575. Wired Radio, Inc., (Assignees of Harrison, J. R.). July 31, 1928, [Convention date]. Thermionic generators. - A pair of four-electrode valves are connected in push-pull relation, and the oscillation frequency is determined by a piezo-electric element associated with one or more pairs of electrodes. As shown in Fig. 2, the inner grids 4, 8 are kept at a positive potential and operate as space-change grids, whilst the outer grids 6, 10 are connected to opposed plates A, B of the crystal element 16. The valve anodes 5, 9 are connected to a second pair of opposed plates C, D on the crystal 16. A biasing battery 18 and chokes or resistances 11, 12 are provided in the outer grid circuits, whilst the anodes are connected through the oscillatory circuit 14, 15 and a choke 13 to the battery 19. The distance d between the pairs of crystal plates may be varied for adjusting the phase relation between the outer-grid circuit and the anode circuit. The inner grids may be used instead of the outer grids for the input or control circuit, and the outer grids kept at a steady positive potential. In a modification, the second pair of crystal plates C, D, and their connections to the anodes, are omitted.
