Abstract

314,605. Salmond, J. S. C., and Alder, L. S. B. April 4, 1928. Thermionic amplifiers.-An amplifier for alternating current or direct-current pulses comprises a valve with four or more electrodes, the control grid being connected directly to the anode of the preceding valve. Fig. 1 shows four electrode amplifiers V1, V2 coupled by resistances R1, R2 and having their additional grids G<1>1, G<1>2 connected to the cathodes. Fig. 3 shows pentode valves VI, V2, arranged for push-pull amplification. The anode of the valve V1, which has known connections, is connected to the grid G2 of the valve V2 and through a variable resistance H to a split primary transformer G. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) of the arrangement in Fig. 3 a differential relay winding is substituted for the transformer A and the resistance H is dispensed with by connecting the high tension supply to an adjustable tapping on a resistance connected between the relay coils.
