Abstract

Battery lamps.-A hand lamp having a hinged cover 20, Fig. 1, that automatically switches on 'the light when it is opened comprises a battery encased in a carton 4 that projects above the battery and is fitted with a cup 5 to contain a bulb-holder 14 of insulating material provided with a cap 19 to which the cover 20 is hinged. Projections 11, 12 are stamped in the cup 5, similar to those described in Specification 298,531, to control a spring 21 that presses the end contact of the bulb 13 on to one pole of the battery. The ends of the spring wire 21 project above the holder 14 and hold the hinged cover 20 in both the closed and open positions. In the open position a tail 22 of the cover presses against the bulb cap to make the electric circuit. A fold between the cover and its tail embraces the hinge pin 24 and is made rigid with solder 25. In a modification (Fig. 8, not shown), the battery case may be of insulating material, electric connection to the cover 20 and thence to the bulb cap being made by the ocver spring bearing on the second pole of the battery. A torch is shown in Fig. 10 wherein the battery 35 is encased in a metal shell 38 that extends over the top of the battery and is stamped to form the cup 40 to receive the operating parts described above.
