Abstract

313,672. Post, O. March 28, 1928. Winding webs. - In apparatus for winding a web of paper, cloth, or other material from one roll to another, and particularly for winding a paper web being printed in a typewriter, the supply roll and collecting roll are connected by a train of gearing including one or more springs which compensate for the varying angular velocities of the rolls as their diameters vary and thus keep the tension of the web substantially constant. In one form, Fig. 1, the shafts c, d of the rolls are directly connected by gears g', h'. The gear h<1> is fast on the shaft d and the gear g<1> is loose on the shaft c but connected thereto by a spring k. In another form, the shafts c, d are connected by a belt passing over pulleys loose upon the shafts and connected thereto by springs. In another form, Fig. 3, the rolls are engaged by friction discs n, p on shafts m, o having fast gears g<3>, h<3> engaging respectively a fast gear r on a shaft s and a gear q loose on the shaft s and connected thereto by a spring k. In a further form, coil springs are used instead of flat spiral springs.
