313,658. Haddon, W., and Burnett, J. M. March 16,1928. Gas exits.-A gas exit comprises a number of contacting surfaces arranged so that the gas has access to the edges of the surfaces. The surfaces may consist of a number of superposed rings 10, as shown in Fig. 3, arranged between a member 9, 11 and a nut 20. The gas liberated in the battery passes up the member 11 and through holes 12 into the space enclosed by the rings and escapes between the latter. Figs. 4 and 5 show a modification in which the vent 13 is formed with a rectangular space 15 which is filled with a number of contacting plates set vertically. A rectangular trough containing the plates may be fixed permanently on the cover cell. Fig. 6 shows in plan a further modification in which a strip of material 19 is wound in a spiral and placed in a plug 16 inserted in the cover of the cell.
